PRESENTATION SUMMARY
Much has been said about what constitutes an excellent leader. But what does a horrible leader look like? And how do aspiring leaders avoid becoming one? Unfortunately, this is a time in which horrible leaders thrive; they perform unethical and despicable acts every day in business. This narrative discusses what horrible leaders do, how they act, and how their minds work.
SPEAKER BIO
Dr. James Baird has a Ph.D. in Business with an emphasis in Organizational Management and a Specialization in Leadership from Capella University with distinction. He also has earned a Master of Business Administration with a specialization in Healthcare Management in 2001 from the University of Phoenix with honors. He is a Certified Allied Health Instructor and a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives. With more than thirty years of clinical, administrative, management, and leadership experience in the health care field, as well as twenty years of leadership & teaching experience at the College level, Dr. Baird is considered by many a Leadership expert. He owns and runs his own consulting firm, Baird Consulting and Motivational Speaking, having completed many projects on curriculum revision and review for such educational institutions as Excelsior College, Franklin College, Vista College, Walden University, University of Phoenix, Vista College, Southwest University and Kaplan College as well as general business consulting. He has also completed such projects as Nursing Engagement Research with Las Palmas Medical Center, Decision-Making among EMS Personnel in El Paso County, in conjunction with Las Palmas Medical Center and University of Texas at El Paso. In the spring of 2012, he was chosen to present at the 4th Annual University of Phoenix Assessment Expo on Student Feedback and Engagement where he received a commendation for best presentation. In June 2012 Dr. Baird Presented on Employee Engagement and Empowerment with West Texas Federal Probation Department and presented his research findings before the State of Texas Federal Probation at the Capitol Building in Austin, Texas. Also, in 2012 he presented at the El Paso Human Resources Management Association quarterly meeting on leadership and at Project Bravo on customer service. In 2013 Dr. Baird presented at the yearly symposium for the American Administrative Professionals Association on Dealing with Difficult People He also presented at the Southern Association of Human Resource Professionals on leadership in San Antonio, Tx in May 2013. In April of 2014 he presented at the Texas Human Resources Management Association conference in San Antonio, TX on leadership. In June of 2014 he presented at the Academic Forum in San Francisco, CA on Leadership Amidst Chaos. In 2015 he presented at Southwest University on Engaging Students in Learning. In October of 2016 he presented his research on Horrible Leaders at the SHRM conference in Fort Worth, TX. Dr. Baird is also a published author in several peered reviewed journals, most recently in the Impact Journal of Business Management in June 2019. He also published his book on Leadership in 2018 on Amazon. He earned Instructor of the year at Southwest University in 2019. In February 2020 he presented in San Antonio at the South Texas SHRM conference where he presented his research on Leading Teams. In January of 2021 Dr. Baird’s paper on Leadership, Organizational Psychology, and Culture was published in The International Journal of Humanities, Arts, Medicine and Sciences. In April of 2022 Dr. Baird’s paper on Leadership Behavior Traits and Ethics was published in the International Journal of Education and Science. In February 2022 Dr. Baird presented his research on Leadership, Organizational Psychology, and Culture at the South Texas SHRM conference in San Antonio, TX. In September of 2022 Dr. Baird presented his research on A Composite of a Successful Leader in the 21st Century at the American Council of Engineering Companies in San Antonio, TX. In November of 2022 Dr. Baird was a Faculty panelist for a seminar hosted by the Accrediting Council of Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP). In 2022 Dr. Baird was appointed to be a part of the Southwest University Institutional Review Board. In February of 2023 Dr. Baird presented his research on Horrible Leaders in Amarillo, TX to the Texas Pan Handle Society of Human Resources Management. According to Academia.com Dr. Baird's published papers have been cited and referenced over 560 times. In 2023 Dr. Baird’s paper on Multigenerational Leadership was published in the International Journal of Management. Dr. Baird’s book on “How to be a Successful Leader in the 21st Century” is on Amazon.com. In 2023 Dr. Baird has been teaching at the College level for 24 years.
