PRESENTATION SUMMARY
How do you know if a worker is properly classified as exempt or should be paid overtime? Or that you are correctly paying your hourly employees? This presentation will provide a working knowledge of the basics of the Fair Labors Standards Act (“FLSA”), including the differences between exempt and non-exempt employees, proper computation of the regular rate of pay for non-exempt employees, and the requirements for some of the most common exemptions. The presentation will also cover recent legal updates to the FLSA and the DOL’s enforcement priorities for 2024 and beyond.
SPEAKER BIO
Nicole LeFave is a Shareholder at Littler Mendelson, P.C. in Austin, Texas. She concentrates her practice on the Fair Labor Standards Act and wage and hour class and collective action defense and advising employers on all aspects of wage and hour compliance. Nicole also defends employers on a variety of wage and hour, discrimination, harassment, retaliation, and corporate whistleblower matters and advises on a broad range of employment matters, from hiring through termination.
Kim Kauffman is a Senior Associate in Littler Mendelson’s Austin office. She defends employers against lawsuits alleging discrimination, harassment, and wage and hour violations. In addition to her litigation practice, Kim advises clients on a variety of employment law-related issues, including terminations, classification of workers, performance management, and employment agreements. She also has experience conducting internal investigations.
